Who’s ready for this winter to be over? *Raising hands high*

We spent last week in Florida enjoying warm sunshine and fresh salty air breeze. I’m a summer girl through and through, but there is one part of winter that I can’t ever get enough of, and that’s being cozy with my family. Think warm fires, thick blankets, Netflix movies and cups of steaming, rich hot chocolate. Sound good to anyone else?

When we get towards the end of winter, I get excited that we are nearing the end of the school year. But it is during the wintertime months that I am most glad that we homeschool. I don’t have to leave to take the kids to school and they don’t have to get bundled up to go out early in the morning.

Mondays are special days because those are our hot chocolate days. Mondays need chocolate, right? Looking forward to a cup of steaming hot chocolate along side their school books helps the kids start their week with something special. And because they are kids, they always try to sneak in more “cozy days” during the week and ask for more hot chocolate. And that’s one thing that every now and then I cave on. I like my warm drinks in the morning, and they do, too!

Starbucks® Hot Cocoa K-Cup® pods make it super easy for the kids to prep their own hot chocolate whenever they choose to on Monday mornings. With just a press of a button they have a warm drink to keep them cozy on snowy days. We fell in love with their thick, rich classic cocoa and salted caramel hot cocoa this winter. They are made with real, velvety cocoa and non-fat milk for a rich, creamy drink that you’re guaranteed to fall for.

Because my family loves hot cocoa and chocolate covered cherries, I had to dress up the classic hot cocoa to make chocolate covered cherry hot chocolate. It’s a simple recipe, really. Simply add two tablespoons of maraschino cherry juice to the bottom of your cocoa mug, then brew a cup of Starbucks classic hot cocoa.

To be just a little more cozy looking and for an extra dose of sweetness, add a dollop of whipped cream, shaved dark chocolate and a maraschino cherry on top.

Who knew the simple addition of cherry juice would enhance the hot chocolate flavor so much? My husband was impressed, the kids had Monday morning smiles. Life is good.

Ingredients

 

• 2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
• 1 Cup Starbucks® Hot Cocoa K-® pod
• Whipped Cream
• Dark chocolate shavings or dark chocolate chips
• 1 Maraschino cherry

Instructions

 

• Pour the cherry juice into the bottom of a mug.
• Brew the hot cocoa K-Cup into the mug.
• Stir gently.
• Top with whipped cream, shaved chocolate and a maraschino cherry.
• Serve immediately.
