Take the classic chili cheese dog and twist it up with this Chili Pizza. Chili sauce, cheddar cheese, sliced hot dogs, and onion top a chewy pizza crust.

Once upon a time a chili cheese dog and a pizza met at a football tailgate party and fell in love. They quickly got married and had a baby named Chili Pizza. Life was never the same. The end.

Good story, right?

I mean if two foods were ever going to marry, this is about the best match (OK…besides chocolate and peanut butter.) Sweet, tangy chili sauce, gooey cheddar cheese, sliced hot dogs all on our famous homemade pizza crust. What’s not to love?

Picnic Leftovers Pizza

One thing I love about this chili cheese pizza is that it uses leftovers. If you have a cookout over the weekend and serve chili dogs, take the leftovers and make this chili cheese pizza for a fun twist.

The Parts of Chili Pizza

  • Pizza Crust. We have to favorite pizza crusts, sourdough discard pizza crust and our traditional pizza crust. Of course, you can always buy a premade crust or frozen pizza dough to use, too.
  • Chili Sauce: Have you made our homemade, best ever chili sauce yet? It’s a ground beef based chili sauce loaded with chili powder and it makes a big batch. Have chili dogs and then use the leftovers to make chili cheese pizza. We love sweet, beefy chili sauce. But if you like a more savory chili sauce, use that. Use one you like since this will be the major flavor of the pizza.
  • Cheddar Cheese. Traditional pizza has mozzarella cheese, but cheddar cheese goes perfectly with chili sauce.
  • Hot dogs. Instead of pepperoni, top the pizza with thin sliced hot dog. You best chili dogs yet!

Chili Pizza Toppings

The flavors you add are up to you. Try one of these toppings:

  • Jalapeรฑo pepper
  • Kidney Beans
  • Black olives
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Sour cream
  • Fresh herbs such as cilantro, parsley or even dried Italian seasoning

Notes

  • Add any other toppings you wish! If you are making a smaller pizza, reduce the amount of chili sauce. You just want it to cover the bottom of the pizza as you do with regular pizza sauce.

I have been making โ€œMexican pizza,โ€ as my kids call it, for years. The problem I have with it is that when you cut into it, the cheddar cheese shrinks to about half the size. Any suggestions?
