A savory dip recipe that is sometimes known as Million Dollar Dip or Neiman Marcus Dip! It’s a cheese spread loaded with almonds, bacon and cheese. This savory dip will quickly disappear.

Earlier this week we shared our Neiman Marcus cookie recipe, and today we’re sticking with that theme and sharing this savory dip recipe which is also called Neiman Marcus Dip or Million Dollar Dip.

Just like this cookies deserve the fame they got, so does this cheese spread for crackers. It’s a rich and savory cheese dip that pairs perfectly with buttery ritz crackers. Serve this easy dip recipe on your next charcuterie board or grazing table. It’s a party dip everyone will love!

About this Savory Dip Recipe:

  • Flavor: This savory dip has a cheesy bacon taste. Those are the two overriding flavors. Everything else is slightly mild with a little tang from the onion.
  • Texture: Loaded with texture? Yes it is! This is not a smooth and creamy dip so may not be for those who don’t love texture in their foods. The almonds have a little bit of crunch at first, but soften slightly as they sit in the cheese spread.

Where did Million Dollar Dip come from?

Helen Corbitt was the Director of Food Services for Neiman Marcus stores. They had a restaurant in their Dallas flagship store called the Zodiac Room. I’m not sure if this cheese spread was served there, but it is featured in Helen’s self-titled cookbook Helen Corbittโ€™s Cookbook. I own this cookbook so got this original recipe right from that book.

In the cookbook it’s called Almond Bacon Cheese Spread. And I think “spread” is a better word than “dip” because it is so thick. It’s easy to spread it on a cracker than to dip the cracker in, almost like the consistency of cream cheese. Although there is no cream cheese in this savory dip.

Where did the “million dollar” part come from? I’m not sure, but I’m betting it’s cause this easy recipe tastes like a million bucks!

Savory Dip Ingredients

There are 6 ingredients in this dip:

  • Almonds. I used slivered almonds, but almond slices would work as well.
  • Bacon. Cook the bacon til crisp and drain off any fat, then crumble it. Use 2-3 slices as you’d like. I choose 3 because…bacon. Need a time saver? Buy real bacon bits and use them.
  • Cheese. The original recipe calls for American cheese. In my years of recipe writing I’ve found more people prefer sharp cheddar cheese over American, so that’s what I used. If you want to use what Helen used, choose American.
  • Mayo. This is what holds the ingredients together and makes it spreadable.
  • Green onions. Or you can use chives.
  • Salt. With the bacon and cheddar, it doesn’t take much salt. And if you are super sensitive to salt, you may just want to leave it out.

How to Make a Savory Dip

Making homemade dip is one of my favorite things because it is not only easy, but can be made up in advance.

Simply mix all of the ingredients in a bowl. Make sure everything is combined well. Then cover and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours so that the flavors can combine. Then it’s ready to serve.

There are many, many variations to this savory dip recipe on the world wide web. One of the most common additions are to add ½ teaspoon garlic powder or minced garlic to the dip. Because garlic is never a bad idea, right? Or you could add a dash of cayenne pepper if you a like a kick of heat.

Serving Suggestions

  • This savory dip is best served in a dish on a charcuterie board with Ritz crackers, pretzels, pita chips or your favorite tortilla chips. Then add fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cucumbers, bell peppers, carrots, celery sticks.
  • Another fun way to serve the savory dip is on top of baked potatoes or on chicken sandwiches or wraps.

Storage Instructions

Store this savory dip in the fridge for up to 5 days. I do not recommend freezing this cheesy bacon dip. Thankfully it makes just a small amount.

Ingredients
 

  • ยผ cup roasted almonds
  • 3 strips bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 4 ounces
  • ยพ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions or chives
  • ยผ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. ยผ cup roasted almonds, 3 strips bacon, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, ยพ cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon chopped green onions , ยผ teaspoon salt
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours.
  • Garnish with green onions or chives and crumbled bacon. Serve with crackers, vegetables, corn chips or tortilla chips.

  • The recipe first appeared in Helen Corbittโ€™s Cookbook by Helen Corbitt with the title of Almond Bacon Cheese Spread. Helen was the Director of Food Services for Neiman Marcus.
  • Original Recipe used American cheese.
