Homemade Fajita Seasoning Recipe

Homemade seasoning mixes. You just can’t beat them. I don’t know how many times I’ve opened the cupboard to make tacos or sausage and not had a seasoning mix. I now try to take some time to mix up bulk seasoning mixes, such as this fajita seasoning. It stores easily in your cupboard for 4-6 months. We never have trouble using this up in that amount of time!

How to Make Fajita Seasoning

Fajita seasoning could not be easier. Mix all of the ingredients together and store it in an airtight container. Simple as that.

  • We used tapioca starch, but if you don’t have that, you can use the same amount of cornstarch.
  • I like to use coconut sugar. Use granulated sugar if you’d like. Or leave the sugar out all together. It does add to the flavor, but is good without it also.
  • Add a little more pepper if you’d like it spicier. The amounts shown below are what our family of 5 loves.

How Much Fajita Seasoning to Use

I usually fix about 1 1/2-2 pounds of meat when I make fajitas. We like about 3 tablespoons of mix to season almost 2 pounds of meat. Adjust the exact amount to your liking.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon tapioca starch
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (I used coconut sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Mix all of the seasonings together and store in an airtight container.
  • This recipe is enough to seasoning about 1/2-2 pounds of meat. Use less seasoning for less spice and more seasoning for more spice.
  • You can make up a big batch of this seasoning mix and store it in an airtight container. Use 2-3 tablespoons seasoning mix per pound of meat.

I used this on 15 oz. of sliced pork that I sliced from boneless chops, one small onion and then added your entire batch of seasoning and 1/2 cup of water after the meat and onions were ready. Brought it to a boil and then let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Sauce thickened nicely. Appreciate you using the tapioca starch as I am allergic to corn! We loved it.
