Several years ago, the kids created a home restaurant called “Lizzy T’s Bistro”. They loved making dinner for our Matt and I, and this Garlic Butter Parmesan Chicken was included in that first ever meal they cooked.
They served this parmesan baked chicken with pasta but you can also serve with roasted potatoes and Italian green beans, or countless other ways. If you absolutely love Italian, garlic butter, and tender chicken, this Garlic Parmesan Chicken recipe is for you!
Ingredients Needed
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts. This also works with bone-in chicken or boneless skinless chicken thighs.
- Milk. For dredging the chicken and giving the breadcrumbs something to stick to.
- Bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. These are the two base ingredients for the chicken breading.
- Parsley, salt and pepper. For giving the chicken flavor. Use fresh parsley if you prefer, but double the amount added.
- Butter, lemon juice and garlic. This is what makes up that savory garlic butter sauce that the chicken bakes in.

Prepare the Chicken.
Many times you’ll find very large chicken breasts in the grocery store. 3 chicken breasts is often 2 ½ pounds, which can make for long and uneven cooking times.
If the chicken breasts you are using are also large, cut them in half to get 6 pieces. Place the chicken breasts in a zippered bag. Use the side of a meat tenderizer to pound the chicken breasts to 1/2″ thickness throughout so they cook evenly.
How to Make Garlic Parmesan Chicken
- Prepare. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place ¼ cup butter in a 9×13″ baking pan and place it in the oven for the butter to melt while the oven heats.
- Make the dredging station. In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, cheese, parsley, salt and pepper. Place milk in another shallow bowl.
- Bread the chicken. Dip chicken in milk, then roll it in the crumb mixture.
- Drizzle the garlic butter. Place chicken in the baking dish with the melted butter. Stir together the butter, garlic and lemon juice and drizzle over the chicken, then sprinkle on the paprika.
- Bake. Cover the pan loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover the pan, turn the chicken and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
About the baking time
The baking time will depend on the thickness of the chicken, so be sure to check it to make sure it is thoroughly cooked. The internal temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Do you want your chicken extra golden brown? After baking, set the oven to low broil and cook for 2-3 minutes to get a beautiful golden brown color. Watch chicken closely so it doesn’t burn.
Make it a meal.

Can you put the chicken in the air fryer?
This was quite good! Both my boys liked it. I had to cook it about 10 minutes longer, and turned the heat up to 400, but perhaps I didn’t have the chicken pounded out thin enough. I would make this again ๐
Made this tonight with skinless, boneless chicken thighs and it was absolutely delicious and so easy! There were NO left-overs and that means the whole family loved it!! I will definitely make this again.
This was delicious! I did it with chicken tenderloins and they were so good! Great recipe! The mixture of the butter, garlic and lemon was perfect.
